Lloyds Bank Foundation

We partner with small and local charities across England and Wales, helping people overcome complex social issues. We’re an independent charitable trust funded by the profits of Lloyds Banking Group.

Who We Are

Through core cost funding, developmental support and influencing policy and practice, we help make charities make life-changing impact.

We work in partnership with the charities we fund and others who share our vision. We listen, understand and respond to charities, through funding and providing developmental support we help them grow stronger and more sustainable. We influence policy and practice to help charities thrive in the future and to address the root causes and consequences of complex social issues.

Small charities responding to COVID-19- Summer 2021 update

Small charities responding to COVID-19:
Summer 2021 update

This report builds on the previous two 'Small charities responding to COVID-19' reports, published in May and December 2020. In it, we share how 401 small and local charities we support have fared as they emerged from the peak of the crisis in the winter and the third national lockdown.

The Value of Small in a Big Crisis

This report follows on from our 2018 Value of Small research. In it, we see small and local charities’ distinctiveness in who they support, how they carry out their work, and the role they play in their communities makes them best placed to respond to this crisis. Our 2020 Impact Report

In 2020, despite the odds stacked against them, small and local charities showed up and stuck around, using their position of trust to support those hardest hit by the pandemic. Throughout the year we stood by their side and became more flexible, responsive, and vocal. Read our impact in 2020.

Complex Social Issues

We partner with small and local charities helping people overcome complex social issues such as homelessness, trafficking and modern slavery and domestic abuse.

More than just funders

Small charities’ size and understanding of the people and local communities means they’re able to make life-changing impact where others can’t. But they are under-funded, under pressure and too often ignored. That’s why we’re more than just a funder — we work in partnership with the charities we fund and others who share our vision.

This pandemic has affected me in many different ways. To begin with, I had to leave home. My relationship with my parents fell apart. Then came results day. Due to the government’s algorithm, I ended up missing my first choice and my insurance choice and I had to find a place through clearance. I did, I am going to study pharmacy at East Anglia. I’m grateful despite everything that happened that a great Uni accepted us. Then came the problem of student finances because obviously, this whole coronavirus pandemic has affected working-class people the most… KEY Project has helped me find grants and bursaries so I will be able to manage through the whole transition process. I feel like I have come out of this pandemic a lot better off than most people would have. I can only thank KEY Project for that.

Life-changing impact

We support over 700 small and local charities across England and Wales. Find out more about how they’re helping people overcome complex social issues and rebuild their lives.

On 16 March 2020 the UK went into lockdown as a response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Young people needed us more than ever, yet our gym had to close, as did many of the schools we worked in. We moved fast to adapt our work and continue supporting young people and their families during a critical time. We are immensely proud of our response, which received recognition both locally and nationally.
