Doncaster Housing for Young People
Doncaster Housing for Young People (DHYP) provides support to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The charity are supported with a grant of £39,000 over three years by Lloyds Bank Foundation, which goes towards their Assertive Outreach Service which supports homeless young people through a tailor made individual support package to access a number of essential services such as benefits, debt advice, housing, training, education and employment.
Hotspot Café’s form part of this service at DHYP, giving young people who are finding it difficult to make ends meet the opportunity to access support and food in an informal and comfortable setting.
Lisa, Hotspot Café Support Worker, said:
"I’ve definitely seen lives change positively through my work at DYHP. We’ve had some really good success stories where they’ve come in and volunteered then moved on to paid employment and into their own properties."
Stuart, Chief Executive at DHYP added:
“To see the transformation where they’re working, in training and in stable accommodation – there are few things more rewarding, and we’ve been able to do that through the support we’ve had from Lloyds Bank Foundation”
John says he has benefited enormously from DHYP’s support:
“I’ve had plenty of support with budgeting and know how to finance myself now. People who walk past probably think of it as a bunch of homeless people or people who can’t afford anything just coming to get free food, but to me I think of it as a small community within a community. Everyone knows each other, gets along, has a laugh…”
