Sufra NW London
Sufra NW London is a community foodbank and kitchen that supports disadvantaged people experiencing food poverty through a range of programmes including welfare surgeries and accredited learning. Lloyds Bank Foundation awarded a £14,630 Enable grant over two years funding the charity’s organisational development and impact measurement work.
Mohammed Mandami, Chief Executive of Sufra, said:
“Our food bank brings people to us and we use this to harnesses interest in our other services such as volunteering in our garden or our Food Academy Plus, which provides training, coaching and supports people to find sustainable employment.”
Roy shared his story about how Sufra has helped him turn his life around:
“Not long ago I was a recipient of Sufra’s food bank. I’m now enrolled in the Food Academy, which is an opportunity I jumped at because it opens new career options, especially the business side of it.
I feel so lucky to have been referred here. It’s seen me through the worse of times. The volunteering network is great here and I’ve done stuff I never would have done. Now I’m back on my feet and I owe Sufra a great deal. I’m so grateful for the simple things like giving my mind focus and offering new opportunities, training and qualifications when I thought hope was lost. Through crisis, they’re here. In a year’s time I hope to be in full employment and completely rehabilitated. I’ve got my happy back!”
