Mudlarks is a Hertford based charity supporting adults with complex learning disabilities and mental health issues.
The charity were supported with a grant of £70,000 over three years by Lloyds Bank Foundation. This funding contributes to the salary costs of a Café Mentor, who supports and trains people with learning disabilities who are employed at Mudlarks’ café.
Louise, Café Mentor at Mudlarks, said:
“We give the people we support all sorts of skills including hygiene and customer service, and work with them to really build their confidence in this environment. Hopefully these skills will mean that in the future they can go off and do exciting things in other work places”
Mudlarks have also benefited from the Foundation’s Enhance support, taking part in Ella Forums which aim to support charity leaders to develop their skills and expertise with other local like-minded charity Chief Executives.
Vic, Managing Director of Mudlarks said:
“Lloyds Bank Foundation have set up a great way we can meet up with other charities based in the East of England that are supported by the Foundation. The fact that Lloyds do that shows a real commitment to the communities that they’re supporting”
Service users had only good things to say about the support and experience they have received from the charity:
“Yeah, it’s changed me a lot actually. I’m thinking wise now. I’ll tell you this – it’s unbelievable here, I love coming here, it’s a really really good place.”
“I’ve learnt to have a lot more confidence in myself. I just generally enjoy it really. I love coming to work every day”
