Natural Ability is a Northumberland-based charity offering education and training to people with learning and other disabilities who enjoy being outdoors and active.
Their Invest grant of £68,137 over three years will enable the charity to employ a Personal Development Worker who will act as advocate for people with learning disabilities as they move into supported living or during a transition from unsuitable accommodation into a more appropriate living situation.
The role will also support people with learning disabilities to gain paid or voluntary work.
Dawn Walker, Natural Ability’s Personal Development Worker, told us how her role makes a difference:
“My role has given Natural Ability the chance to empower the individuals we support, putting them and their development needs at the heart of all we do”.
Robert, service user at Natural Ability said:
“The regular projects help me to keep going week on week. Sometimes it’s been a challenge, but I’ve made friends, and it’s given me the chance to get out there. Every day is a little bit different.”
