Influencing policy & practice

Alongside our local grant making, we also help charities to develop new approaches when tackling disadvantage and share learning to help them increase their impact.  We do this through research and investing in thematic programmes that hope to get the voices and experiences of our grantees heard in order to influence policy and practice.

Championing Small and Medium-Sized Charities

We know small and medium-sized charities are best at reaching people and communities facing disadvantage yet they face many challenges. We want to expose these challenges and build an evidence base so that others, including government, can understand the difference made by small and medium-sized charities, and help them thrive, not just survive.

We want to improve support for people facing abuse by strengthening the domestic and sexual abuse sectors. We’ve invested £3m over three years to stimulate innovation in the sectors by helping local charities to develop new approaches and respond to the challenges facing them.
